6050 FINALS

Congratulations to Colin Irvine who won the 6050 Cup
Shetland Pool Association 6050 Cup 2010 Winner Colin Irvine

Two of the quarter finalists, Richard Young and David Irvine had prior arrangements and were unfortunately unable to attend. As a result opponents Adam Swift and Ryan Duncan progressed straight to the semis.

In the first of the remaining quarter finals Davie Sandison went two frames up when opponent Colin Irvine missed a long straight black in the first and Davie playing a good plant then the black to clear up the second. Colin won the third from a snooker swerving the white to pot the black. Colin won the next two to go 3 – 2 up, but Davie fought back and took the next two. Colin made a terrific clearance with great potting and positional play to take it to a decider. Colin was first on the black which he missed turning the game in Davies favour, but he missed a chance leaving Colin with the black over the pocket which he was not going to miss a second time. Colin won the match 5  - 4.

Defending champion Stephen Dobson took the first frame against James Ramsay with a 6 ball clearance. James took advantage of some scrappy play and won the next three frames. Stephen made an excellent clearance in the fifth to take the score to 2 – 3. James won the sixth frame leaving him needing only one more to progress to the final but Stephen played steadily winning the next two taking the match to a deciding frame.  Stephen started strong with an attempted clearance but lost positioning on his last few balls allowing James in to win the frame and match 5 – 4.

The first semi final was Colin Irvine against Adam Swift. Adam won the first frame, and went on to win the second with some good safety play.  With Adam looking favourite in frame three, Colin regained control with a double on the black, he showed his good potting ability and confidence to pot where if he missed he was sure to go three nil down. After the fourth frame the score was 2 – 2. The fifth saw Colin missing a black leaving Adam a double but luckily for Colin, Adam missed allowing Colin to pot the black. Colin returned the favour in the seventh, missing the black and allowing Adam back on the table to clear up. After eight frames the match was tied 4 – 4.  The ninth frame was won by Colin where luck was in his favour. He went for a safety sending the ball towards a pocket which resulted in it dropping in, but from there he showed no nerves and made two very good pots to finish and book himself a place in the final.

The second semi was Ryan Duncan and James Ramsay. James went two nil up with a brilliant clearance in second frame. The next four frames all went to Ryan with some very solid play, excellent clearances, safety when needed, and also a few missed chances by James. The seventh frame went to James with a good clearance. The final game went to Ryan it was a scrappy frame but he finished well to and won the match 5 – 3 to secure his place in the final.

The final was Colin Irvine v Ryan Duncan. Ryan was to break first but failed to pot so Colin started on yellows potting one then blocking a pocket. Colin was in control of the game waiting for his chance to clear the table, which he did. The second frame saw Colin going for a clearance but he let Ryan back on. Ryan played safe with a snooker. Colin managed to get out of the snooker and left the table on for his opponent to go on and win. Frame three, Ryan broke and a red dropped and he went on to clear up from the break. Fourth frame was a tight game with Colin coming out in front and winning. Colin carried on to win the fifth, sixth and seventh frames playing very well with Ryan missing a few good chances to keep himself in the game. In the eighth and last frame Colin had a brilliant clearance and won the competition deservingly.

Shetland Pool Association would like to thank sponsors 6050 Taxis and Scalloway Boating Club for hosting the event.
